PER ASPERA AD ASTRA REFLEX
A video recording of TV channels being changed incessantly is projected into a room corner (1). On the opposite wall, a TV stand with a monitor on it rotates from left to right within a radius of 70 degrees. The monitor shows a video recording of the room. The image on the monitor changes from a video recording to a reflection of the exhibition space (2). From time to time the light in the room turns on and overpowers the light of the video projection (3).
(1) The video Per Aspera Ad Astra is a four-hour video recording of 150 Astra satellite TV channels being changed incessantly. The video was recorded from satellite TV directly onto the videotape. The duration of the video was determined by the length of the VHS tape (245 minutes).
(2) The video picture on the screen fades out every 12 minutes for 1 minute. During that time a two-way mirror fixed to the front of the monitor reflects the exhibition space.
(3) Space lighting is turned on by a timer for a few seconds approximately every 7 minutes.
